19/08/2010
Leicester College has seen outstanding results for its A2 level courses again this year, with 100% pass rates gained in the Humanities, Languages and Business subject areas.
One of the learners, Amy Leatherland aged 18 was today celebrating gaining three A* grades in A2 levels in Fine Art, Photography and Ceramics. She is now going on to study Art and Design at De Montfort University and has ambitions to work in theatre set design or as an art therapist. She said: “I was hoping to get good resutls, but I did not expect to get A* grades!
“Art is really competitive and you can’t go into the industry without the right qualifications.”
Another learner to collect her results today was 19 year old Alyssia Chapman. Having taken A/S levels in science subjects on leaving school and struggled, she was overjoyed to learn she had successfully achieved an A in English Language and Literature, an A in Sociology and B in History in her second attempt at A/S levels. She said: “I’m now one step nearer to studying English and American Studies at University, and to achieving my dream of becoming an English teacher. I was going to have to choose another path if I hadn’t got the grades this time, I can’t believe it.”
Mature learner Victoria Osmond also had reason to celebrate after learning she had achieved an A* in A2 level Fine Art. With four children aged two, five, 13 and 16, Victoria was able to juggle her studies with her family commitments and is looking to the future and studying at university. She said: “I didn’t do well at school, but always held an interest in Art. I wanted to better myself so decided to study Fine Art. I’m really pleased with my results.”
Maggie Galliers, Leicester College Principal said: “I’m extremely proud of all our learners who have achieved excellent AS and A2 level results this year. This reflects the hard work, commitment and dedication of both the learners and staff at the College.”
