Celebrating inclusion at Leicester College
28/10/2010
Leicester College is to hold a week’s activities on 1-5 November 2010 to celebrate diversity and disability equality within the College.
One of the main events during the week will be an Inclusion Conference on Wednesday 3 November. The event, which is to be held at the College’s Freemans Park Campus aims to promote inclusion within the College by having disabled and non-disabled learners attend. They will be working together on the Olympic values and trying out practical workshops, as well as hearing from disabled role models, thinking about equality and getting to know each other better.
There will be a variety of activities taking place throughout the conference including dance, creative work activities and a drama workshop by the Misfits, a theatre company led by people with learning difficulties. The highlight of the conference will be an inspirational talk held by Nigel Vardy a record breaking disabled mountaineer. The Channel 4 Series star was the first British climber to summit the highest peaks on the world’s seven largest islands.
Ruth Pickersgill, Diversity Manager at Leicester College said: “The College is proud of its diversity and the way in which all our students work, learn and socialise together. We are committed to promoting community cohesion and holding this conference is the perfect way of taking this forward.”
