College celebrates launch of charity appeal for LOROS

15/10/2010

Leicester College pledged to support LOROS (Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering) for the 2010/11 academic year at a special event in the Granby Suite at Freemen’s Park Campus on Wednesday 6 October.

LOROS is a local charity which provides care and support to the terminally ill and their families within Leicestershire and Rutland.

College staff and learners will be helping to raise funds by arranging cross-department activities such as walks, bike rides, cake sales, challenges and car boot sales.

Nancy Taylor, Fundraising Manager from LOROS said: “I look forward to working with Leicester College in their charitable efforts and will be available to offer any necessary support.”

Dr Don Brooks, Deputy Principal for Quality, Planning and Corporate Services at Leicester College said: “It is fantastic that every year learners do so much in the fundraising arena.  Taking part in fundraising activities improves self confidence, provides learners with the opportunity to develop personal growth by doing something different and working as part of a team, and is about setting and achieving goals.  The value of volunteering is immeasurable, is fun and is extremely rewarding.”
