The search is on for ‘Chef of the Year 2011’

06/04/2011

Learners at Leicester College will put their skills to the test to see who can be the next Jamie Oliver or Delia Smith.

Sixteen budding chefs will be working in pairs to serve up some culinary delights, on Monday 11 April 2011, in a bid to be the cream of the crop and titled this year’s ‘Chef of the Year’.

The contestants, all VRQ Diploma level three advanced cookery learners at Leicester College, will be battling it out during a ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ style showdown in the taste restaurant at Freemen’s Park Campus.

Each entrant must deliver a two-course meal, main course and dessert to a panel of judges, including Chris Morrall, the Head Chef from Leicester City Football Club, Trevor John, General Manager from Leicester City Football Club, Martin Ward, one of the College’s Governors and Leicester College Secretary and Clerk, Graydon Thwaite.

The aspiring chefs will have 45 minutes to create a menu and will need to make sure they use all the ingredients they are provided with.

The event, which is sponsored by Compass catering, will run from 12pm until around 1.30pm.

The winners will receive £75 each and the runners-up a specialist cookery book.
