Learners to take their careers up a gear through motor sport placements

18/05/2011

From mechanics to marketing, hospitality to hairdressing, learners from Leicester College will be getting a taste of life in the fast lane at MackRory Racing.  The Leicester College Sports and Uniformed Public Services department has got together with MackRory Racing  to provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for its learners.  The partnership was set up by sports marketing promotions company, Touchline Sports.

Through Leicester College’s sponsorship of the British Superbikes Team, learners will be able to take advantage of placements in sport, mechanics, media, photography and marketing for races taking place this season.  This will give them the chance to find out about the fast-paced motor sport environment.

To celebrate the launch of this sponsorship, the MackRory Racing Team will be there, including Matthew Hoyle and Alex Barkshire who will bring a super bike along to the College.  During their visit on 23 May 2011, they will be on hand to speak to learners interested in a career in the industry and who may be interested in the work experience placements open to them.

Stuart Allan, Programme Area Manager for Sports and Uniformed Public Services said: “I think this partnership with MackRory Racing will provide learners with a great opportunity to gain real-life experience of working in the motor sport industry.  With placements available in areas spanning from mechanics right through to photography at the events, learners from across the College will be able to benefit from this sponsorship.”

Richard Hill, Touchline Sports Managing Director and Commercial Manager for MackRory Racing said: “I am delighted to be working with Leicester College to provide placement opportunities for learners interested learning more about motor sports.  It’s important to bring fresh new talent into the industry, and by offering these placements, I hope it will enthuse the generation of the future to think about careers in this sector.”
