Toni Wright, a Motorcycle Engineering student at Leicester College, has been offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of a team to coach and mentor youth teams in football in Capetown.
In September 2011, Toni Wright will be travelling to South Africa to work on Skillshare International’s Coaching for Hope programme, which uses football to build young people’s skills and confidence and raise awareness of issues such as HIV and substance misuse.
This fantastic opportunity arose when Skillshare International were invited to talk to students at Leicester College to let them know about the new International Citizen Service scheme. Jessica Everall of Skillshare commended Toni Wright who approached Skillshare on the day “I met Toni at Leicester College when we had a stall at the Abbey Park Campus and I was also involved in her assessment day. She’s a fantastic candidate who has shown great initiative, commitment to the programme and practical problem solving skills.”
Toni’s passion for bikes and completing the Level 1 Motorcycling Engineering course at Leicester College was her starting point.
The opportunity given by Leicester College and Skillshare to travel further afield to volunteer in Capetown enthuses Toni “The experience is a once in a life time opportunity and I hope to gain knowledge about different cultures and people; This opportunity will significantly support my course and my future as I have always had a dream of travelling and becoming a sports coach”.
David Nicholson, Engineering Lecturer at Leicester College, said “Toni is an exemplar model student who is able to express her tenacity, sincerity and ambition in full with the support from her family, friends and tutors”.
