Energising Sports Performance Knowledge

30/11/2011

Is it possible to become too hydrated? Is sweating good or bad? How does one balance the two for optimal sports performance?

These may be tough questions for the average person but not for Leicester College sports programme learners. They benefited from a special session with a nutritional expert from Lucozade, manufacturers of the energy drink, on 21 November 2011.

Thomas Barnden, Lead Sports Nutritionist in Lucozade’s Sports Science Team gave talks to learners studying the BTEC Level 2 Diploma: Sports, NVQ Level 2: Fitness Instructing Fitness Instructors Level 2 and the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching.

“The aim of the exercise was to demonstrate to these learners how the subject of performance nutrition works in applied sports and also to give them a bit of career talk,” explained Barden.

It is the first time that Lucozade and Leicester College have teamed up but it will not be the last. The energy drink manufacturer is returning to perform a series of fitness tests exercises with the learners in the New Year.

Stuart Allen, Programme Area Manager for Sports and Uniform Public Service said it was an “exciting opportunity for our learners to hear a leading voice within the sports performance field and gain valuable information about sports nutrition and possible career routes.”

Leicester College offers a wide range of sports and sports administration courses at all levels.
