She will be an Olympic Family Assistant working with members of the Olympic Family, International Sport Federations, London 2012 sponsors and representatives of future Olympic Organising Committees.
Sue, from Wigston, Leicestershire, will be required to carry out various tasks during the Olympic Games including driving them to venues and perform other customer service roles as required.
Sue was selected for the Olympic Family Assistant role from around 250,000 people who applied to be a Games Maker at the Games.
Sue said: “I saw it on the news in early 2010 and impulsively just filled in the online application. I thought it would be a life-time opportunity. My children are grown and I have time to volunteer now – something that I’ve never done. I didn’t apply for a specific role, I just stated my experience and they matched me up to the job they thought I was most suitably for.”
In the selection committee’s letter to Sue, they told her that she had been “specially chosen for this once in a lifetime role because of the fantastic inter-personal skills and problem-solving ability that you displayed at your selection event.”
Sue is still on ‘cloud nine’ basking in the euphoria and excitement at the rare opportunity of being selected for this role and looks forward to flying high the ‘Leicestershire flag’ at the games.
