Maggie Galliers CBE
Principal
Maggie Galliers has been Principal of Leicester College since July 2002.
Before that, she was Principal of Henley College Coventry for five years, having previously held a wide variety of management positions in FE and taught in all sectors of education: primary, secondary, further and higher.
Maggie also has broad experience at Board level nationally and is currently a member of the Ofqual Board, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) Board and the Higher Education Funding Council for England’s (HEFCE) Teaching Quality and Student Experience Committee.
In the past, she has also been a member of the Apprenticeship Task Force, the FEFC Quality Assessment Committee, the Quality Improvement Agency Board, the National Learning and Skills Council (LSC), and the LSC’s Young People’s Learning Committee.
Maggie was appointed CBE for services to local and national further education in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2009. Maggie is President Elect of the Association of Colleges for 2012/13.

Keith Whittaker
Deputy Principal, Curriculum and Programmes
Keith Whittaker joined Leicester College in July 2004 as Director of Planning and Resources and took up his current post of Deputy Principal, Curriculum and Programmes, in August 2007. Prior to joining Leicester College he was Vice Principal at Henley College Coventry, where he worked for ten years.
He has held posts as an education officer in two local authorities and has worked as a teacher in further education, adult education and in a secondary school. His curriculum specialism is English and basic skills, which he taught for ten years.
Keith is an accredited inspector with Ofsted and has inspected for them since 2001.
In September 2009, Keith became a member of the Board of Apex, which is an established charity in Leicester. Leicester College has a strategic alliance with Apex.
Don Brooks
Deputy Principal, Quality, Planning and Corporate Services

Dr Don Brooks was appointed as Deputy Principal Quality Planning and Corporate Services in July 2009. He was previously Vice Principal Resources and Engagement at Grantham College. Prior to this he held senior management posts at North Lindsey College and the Defence College of Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
Don began his career teaching mathematics and PE before becoming an officer in the Royal Air Force through the 1980s. Following a period in industry, Don returned to education in 1992 and has extensive experience of secondary, further and higher education.
Don is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute for Learning, and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute. In addition to holding an engineering degree and a PGCE, he is a graduate of the Open University gaining a BA degree in 1985, an MA in Education (Leadership and Management) in 1995 and a Doctorate in Education in 2001.
A keen sportsman, Don competed in the 1986 World Triathlon Championships and has coached athletes of all ages to local, regional and national honours. He was a team manager and coach for the South of England Athletics Association from 1996 to 2002. His interests are his family, sport, DIY, playing the banjo and supporting Queens Park Rangers FC.
Tracey Kinsley
Assistant Principal for Employer Engagement
Tracey has been Assistant Principal for Employer Engagement at Leicester College since 2006.
Before that, she held various other posts at the College – Quality and Student Manager, Programme Area Manager and Lecturer in Electronic Publishing within Media, Graphic Design and Photography. Before joining Leicester College, and previously South Fields College, Tracey was a Graphic Designer, working in both Leicester and London.
Tracey has been a part-time Ofsted Accredited Inspector since 2004 for Arts, Media and Publishing and she is also a Governor at a community college in Leicestershire where she is Chair for the Teaching and Learning Committee.
Tracey has a busy family life and continues her interest in graphics and digital media in her spare time.
Kully Sandhu
Assistant Principal for Skills for Life and Functional Skills
Kully was appointed to Leicester College as Assistant Principal for Skills for Life and Functional Skills in August 2007. He previously held the positions of Lecturer, Head of School for Automotive Engineering, Quality Manager and Assistant Director for Widening Participation at the College. His curriculum specialism is motor vehicle engineering, which he taught for 11 years.
Prior to working in Further Education in 1993, Kully was employed in the motor industry. After completing his apprenticeship he held the posts of Technician specialising in automotive electronics, Workshop Supervisor and Trainer. In 1990 he became a partner in an independent garage business.
Kully is a graduate of the University of Leicester where he gained an MSc in Educational Leadership in 2009. His interests include sport, DIY, cooking, music and playing the guitar.
Rod Wood
Director of Human Resources
Rod joined the College in September 2002 as Head of Human Resources and was appointed Director of Human Resources in 2007.
He has vast experience in Human Resources starting at Rolls-Royce in Derby and including posts in both the private and the public sector. Before joining Leicester College he was Regional HR Manager/Pay and Benefits Manager for Remploy for two years and Head of HR for British Gas Energy Centres, the national retail arm of Centrica, for six years.
Rod is married with four children. He enjoys playing tennis, travel, reading and theatre.
Shabir Ismail
Director of Finance, Funding and Information
Shabir joined Leicester College in October 2010. He has been working in the education sector since 1996 when he joined the Further Education Funding Council. He has also previously held posts as a Consultant with Bentley Jennison assisting colleges in financial difficulties, financial controller for Becta and eventually moving to North Warwickshire and Hinckley College as Assistant Principal, Finance and Risk Management where he worked for eight years.
Shabir also served as Non-Executive Director with George Eliot NHS Trust for four years. As a Board Member he assisted the Trust in considerably improving both the financial and clinical performance over a short period of time.
Shabir is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and holds a BSc honours degree in Mathematics. He is married with two young children and is currently serving as a Board member of their school. His interest include travelling, DIY, sports and is a passionate Liverpool FC supporter.
Graydon Thwaite
College Secretary and Clerk to the Corporation
Graydon Thwaite was appointed to Leicester College as College Secretary and Clerk to the Corporation in July 2005. He previously held the positions of Examinations Manager and Student Registry Manager at the College.
Working in Further Education and training since 1983 he has held various appointments including Training Officer for the Elfrida Rathbone organisation in Rochdale, part-time lecturer in ABE for Rochdale College and Student Services Manager at Yeovil College. Prior to 1983 Graydon worked as a Textile Technician where he held the position of Research and Development Officer for Turner and Newall.
Graydon has two children and his interests include travelling, music, gardening and DIY.
Alan Jones
Assistant Principal for 14-19 and Higher Education
Alan’s role encompasses strategic responsibility for the 14-16, 16-19 and Higher Education curriculum. Alan joined the College in May 2011, having spent ten years at Henley College Coventry as Director of Student Services and Learning Support and Assistant Principal for Foundation Learning, Skills for Life and Employer Engagement.
Alan is an English specialist with an MA in American Literature and has taught a wide range of English curriculum from Degree to Entry level, including ESOL and Basic Skills. He spent six years teaching English abroad in his early career and retains a passion for travel. His other hobbies include reading, photography, sport and playing Blues guitar.
