Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Body Repair

Ross Varnam

Ross didn’t know what he wanted to do as a career and did two weeks work experience at Parkers. The company were so impressed with him; they appointed him as an apprentice whilst on day release at Leicester College.

Ross became a finalist in the bodyshop magazine young body part technician of the year competition after being put forward for it by Parkers and was scouted for the UKSkills competition squad as a result.

He is competing in the final team selection stages in July to represent the UK in WorldSkills 2011 in London. He has also progressed to the role of Body Repair Technician at Parkers.

Ross said: “Tutors saw the work I was capable of doing for my age and skill and since I started the apprenticeship I’ve never looked back. I’m a competitive person and the UKSkills Olympics has given me a chance to prove what I can do.

“I would advise taking an apprenticeship and being able to earn and support yourself whilst learning.”
