Tower Tool signs up five new Apprentices
Precision engineering business Tower Tool is taking on five new apprentices with Leicester College, giving the young people from Leicestershire a fantastic opportunity to launch excellent and rewarding careers.
One of the new apprentices, Gareth Roberts, 21, has now started at Tower Tool. The other four were welcomed for an induction day on Friday (April 1) ahead of their full start in September. They are: Thomas Snow, 15, of South Wigston; Alex Hutchinson, 16, of Cosby; James Hogg, 16, of Countesthorpe; and Luke Pinfield, 17, of Huncote.
Tower Tool, which creates tools used to make parts for Airbus and Boeing aircraft, launched its search in February for new apprentices to start skilled careers with high potential earnings.
An open day at Tower Tools’ Wigston factory during National Apprenticeship Week saw school pupils, college students and job hunters discover what goes on at a modern engineering business – all five of the new apprentices attended the open day. They heard first hand from Tower Tool’s apprentices what it means to be an apprentice.
When all five apprentices have started in September Tower Tool will be employing 20 people at its Radnor Road factory, including seven apprentices in total. The firm has been taking on apprentices for 16 years.
Tower Tool managing director Myles Ball said: “We were really pleased with the calibre of the applicants and delighted to be able to give these five young men a great opportunity and that the five openings have been filled by such enthusiastic individuals.”
Apprentice Gareth Roberts, of Hinckley, had worked in bars and factories before deciding he wanted a career in design and engineering. He said: “I had many jobs but did some engineering work experience last year and decided that design was what I wanted to do. I heard about Tower Tool taking on apprentices and applied.
“I was really pleased I was picked and I know that in the long term it will pay off and I will be doing a job I enjoy and have a great qualification as well.”
Tower Tool’s apprentices will study one day a week at Leicester College and learn as they work, picking up skills and qualifications – one in IT, two in toolmaking and two in Computer Aided Design.
Pete Rogers, Business Delivery Manager for Engineering at Leicester College said: “We are delighted that Tower Tool is looking to inject fresh new talent into the organisation through taking on apprentices. We have an ongoing relationship with Tower Tool through supporting the company with their apprentices and are pleased we can support them in this way.”
