Skills for LifeFeedback

English, Maths and ICT

We offer adults the chance to improve their English and/or maths skills, with a number of free part-time programmes. You can attend classes at many venues throughout the city including centres in local communities, on employers’ premises, in probation offices and in local schools.

You will work on an individual learning plan and you can take qualifications from entry level to level 2, which is the same level as GCSEs and NVQ2s. Please call us for an informal chat or to arrange a skills check

If you would like to learn how to use a computer, we also offer ICT sessions. We promise you it’s not going to be like school, but if you want you can work towards qualifications and certificates including the national tests in literacy and numeracy at levels 1 and 2, which are equivalent to a pass at GCSE.

Volunteer Training Course

Can you spare two hours a week to help in our Adult Basic Education classes? If so, you can apply for this course to train to become a volunteer tutor. If you are confident with your own English and maths skills, please call us on 0116 224 2240 for more details.

You will need English and maths qualifications at level 2. There may be an opportunity to work towards these while doing the course.

Access to Further Education

If you are aged 19 or over and are looking for a way back into studying or employment, this is the course for you. You have the opportunity to improve your study skills, employability skills and levels of self confidence whilst working in a college environment.

You should have literacy skills equivalent to GCSE grade D and be able to attend a maximum of three two-and-a-half hour sessions per week. Times and days that you attend can be negotiated. The majority of sessions take place at Abbey Park Campus. You will also have the chance to work towards an IT qualification and the Literacy and Numeracy National Test Certificates at levels 1 and 2 (Times and costs to be confirmed).

Call us on 0116 224 2240 for more information.
