10th Anniversary |
Leicester College celebrates its 10th yearLeicester College celebrated its tenth birthday on 1 August 2009. The College, formed from the merger of Charles Keene College and Southfields College, was launched in 1999 by a team of abseilers descending from the rooftop of the Freemen's Park Campus. Since then, Leicester College has gone from strength to strength. In its 10 years, more than 250,000 learners have studied with the College. The College itself has achieved excellent Ofsted results as well as a huge number of national and local awards for excellence including Charter Mark, MATRIX and Investors in People accreditation and membership of the National Skills Academy for Retail and for Food and Drink Manufacturing. In June 2009, the College also swept the boards at the Leicester Green Life Awards. The College's first decade culminated in the official opening of the new Abbey Park Campus by HRH The Princess Royal in May 2009. This building now provides state-of-the-art facilities in an environmentally friendly building. Maggie Galliers, Leicester College Principal, said: “I would like to thank everyone past and present who has contributed to our successes over the last decade. Everyone at the College is so proud of all that we and our learners have achieved in our first 10 years. “Making sure everyone has the skills to enable them to find the jobs they want and to do those jobs to the very best of their ability is particularly important at the moment. With our wonderful new buildings and facilities, we can help people get the training they need to get on. We are looking forward to our next decade and to welcoming many more people to Leicester College in the future.” |
