Things you should know about ALG

  • Full attendance (100%) is mandatory.
  • You must adhere to Sick and Authorised Absence procedures.
  • You must adhere to the Electronic Register Rules and Procedures.
  • ALG paperwork must be filled in accurately. Forgery of paperwork is a gross breach of the Student Disciplinary Code.
  • Payments are processed once a week, and it takes four working days for the money to reach your account. You will normally receive your money on a Friday each week during term time.
  • Lateness may affect your payment. If you are running late for College, you must contact your Administration Office.
  • Sickness

If you are poorly, please phone your Administration Office and leave a message for your tutor, to let them know you will not be in College. It is important that you do this, as otherwise you will not be paid. When you return to College, please visit your Administration Office to complete a sick form for your period of absence. Filling in this form, should ensure you will still be paid, but check with your administration office first.

If you have had more than five consecutive days of sickness, you will need to contact your Administration Office, to discuss whether this will affect your payments.

    Authorised Absence

There may be times when you require time off, other than when you are sick. In this instance, you must apply for the absence before you take the time off.

You can do this by completing an Authorised Absence Application Form from your Administration Office.

The Administration Office will then approve or decline the absence depending on whether it is classed as an ALG-recognised Authorised Absence.

    What is the application process?

There is a free helpline for young people and parents 0800 121 8989. Alternatively, log on to www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning You can also call the College on 0116 224 2240 for more information

    Backdated Payments

If you applied late for your ALG, you may be entitled to backdated payments. In order for the College to process these payments for you, please bring in your letter from The Assessment and Payment Body for ALG. This letter will confirm which backdated payments you are eligible for, subject to full attendance for those weeks. Please take this letter to your Administration Office as soon as you are eligible for your ALG.

    Forgeries

Forgeries are a gross breach of the Student Disciplinary Code. If you forge your timesheet or tamper with it, then you will be suspended pending a disciplinary hearing.

The timesheet is your responsibility, so please check it before handing it in to make sure it hasn’t been tampered with by somebody else.

    Appeals

You can appeal against a non-payment decision.

Contact your Administration Office for details.

If you have any queries regarding ALG then please contact your Administration Office.
