The beauty and complementary therapies sector is one of the largest employers in the country, with an annual turnover of £500 million and 35,000 employees in around 8,000 businesses. It is an exciting industry with an increasing client spend and great potential, but continued growth is dependent on a supply of trained staff.
The industry is currently experiencing high staff turnover and recruitment difficulties. Training staff and investing in their future will build staff loyalty and help retention. It will also develop not only their beauty therapy skills but also other important business aspects including customer service, retail skills and IT - an area in which the beauty therapy industry is lacking. Additionally, we specialise in nail technician training, an area where 85% of salons are experiencing difficulty in recruiting. Leicester College is recognised as a Wella Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing. Successful Training
EllisonsHelen Love is a Branch Manager for Ellisons, a supplier of professional products to hair and beauty businesses. Ellisons has been working with Leicester College for over 10 years. Helen said: “I would describe the way we work with Leicester College as a partnership. I work extremely closely with them supporting the students in becoming hair and beauty professionals with products and information which reflect the needs of the industry.”
“Through our partnership students get exposure to the latest industry information, products and techniques through regular training opportunities, which we arrange with manufacturers. Our work with the College is a way for us to support the future of the industry we work in. Based on my relationship with them I would absolutely recommend working with Leicester College to other businesses.”
