Acclaim for National Skills Academy Success

Leicester College has been awarded Founder College status of the National Skills Academy for Creative and Cultural Skills (NSA). This is in recognition of its development work and national achievements in Performing Arts and Music.

Having already been endorsed as an Apple Accredited Centre and as a Roland Music Academy College, the provision is setting the standard for the sector. This follows success as finalists in the National Student Drama Festival, Youth Dance England and National Theatre Shell Connections.

The NSA was set up by the Government in 2008 to encourage the education sector to work with industry employers to reinforce and lead excellence in skills for technical theatre and live music events.

The NSA operates through a network of industry and training provider members, and in particular, its’ Founder Colleges.  As part of this network, Leicester College will be a centre for sound engineering, production technologies and technical professional training for the East Midlands.

Rob Thompson, Leicester College’s Curriculum Area Manager for Media and Performing Arts said: “Over the last couple of years, Leicester College has built strong working partnerships with large and small organisations, including Takeover Radio and the Leicester Union of Music Promoters to maximise performance opportunities and support young musicians.

“The National Skills Academy will reflect the passion for performing arts that a range of locally based organisations, practitioners and performers have, and establish itself as a major contributor to the cultural life of the city and region.”
