Leicester College has received £25,000 sponsorship from The Norman Gill Charitable Trust to revamp the former Phoenix Arts Centre. The funding for refurbishment of the new facility, renamed Upper Brown Street, will cover the costs of decoration, testing, upgrading and reinstallation of all lighting and sound equipment and ensuring the building meets health and safety standards. The project is expected to be completed after Easter. Over 300 young people on training programmes for Performing Arts will learn about performance and event management in a live working environment as part of the National Skills Academy for Creative and Cultural Skills. They will be given the opportunity to work with professionals in the industry such as the Association of Music Promoters. Norman Gill, founder of the Norman Gill Charitable Trust said: “The Charity, which specialises in financial support for youth education and leisure activities has agreed to give Leicester College the £25,000 that they needed to support the former project.” Robert Thompson, Curriculum Area Manager for Media and Performing Arts at Leicester College said: “We are delighted to receive this funding which will be used to help see Upper Brown Street up and running as a live venue that will provide essential skills training for learners.” |
