Leicester College takes part in second national Colleges' Week

The second Colleges' Week, the national celebration of the role colleges play in celebrating the opportunities colleges create for individuals, businesses and Britain, is taking place during the week of the 9-15 November 2009.

Colleges' Week is being coordinated and organised by the Association of Colleges' (AoC) and the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS).

Events will take place in Colleges' across the country all week.  Specific activities include College + Community - where college learners and/or staff go into the local community and talk about opportunities available at college.

This Colleges' Week Leicester College plans to take part in a week of activities across the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) outreach venues to show why these facilities are so important to the local community.

The ESOL Belgrave, Bede Island and Highfields outreach venues will focus each day’s activities on a different theme, including Citizenship, Health, Vocational Skills, Family Learning and Employability.  There will be art and crafts demonstrations, displays and opportunities to take part in taster sessions.

During the week, the Braunstone and Evington outreach centres will host various curriculum and careers workshops and information, advice and guidance seminars with a focus on encouraging the progression of their existing learners.

Then there will be opportunities for learners and prospective learners who have been unemployed for six months or more to visit the Humberstone outreach centres to learn more about the Routeway and assessment programmes taking place at these venues.

Maggie Galliers, Leicester College Principal said: “We are excited to celebrate Colleges' Week as it is a real opportunity to celebrate the opportunities that colleges create for both individuals and businesses and recognise our world class workforce that is helping to build Britain’s future.”
