Retail skills set to rise in Leicester

ImageLeicester College is taking part in a national scheme to rejuvenate Leicester’s retail sector through a new, nationally recognised Skills Centre opening this week.

Justin Stead, Chief Executive Officer of Goldsmith Jewellers officially opens the centre at a launch event to be attended by employers, partners and stakeholders on 4 February 2010. 

The Retail Skills Centre Leicester was recently announced as a founder member of the National Skills Academy for Retail; a government backed network of training centres designed to increase productivity in the sector. 

Based at Apex House, Charles Street in the heart of the city, the Retail Skills Centre will offer retailers advice, guidance and the expertise to help develop their employees’ potential, improve their performance and prepare for the economic upturn.

Retail Skills Centre Leicester offers training and development for learners and employers, and can also help retailers to recruit 'retail ready' staff.  As part of the National Skills Academy for Retail, the Skills Centre offers a full range of retail skills training including the Diploma in Retail Business, pre-employment training, Apprenticeships, work-based qualifications, master classes for retail managers, and the Foundation Degree in Retailing.

Maggie Galliers, Principal at Leicester College said: “We are delighted to be opening the Retail Skills Centre Leicester, which will provide dedicated support for the retail sector; from local people looking to get back into work, to retailers wanting to train their workforce.”
