School students brave the dragons den

A group of year 10 Moat Community College got the chance to pitch their business ideas during a dragons den themed workshop at Leicester College.
The group were set the challenge of using their entrepreneurial skills to come up with a concept for a product such as a new variety of crisps, soft drink or chocolate bar and then pitched their ideas to a panel of judges.  Ideas ranged from chocco chilli flavour crisps to a fruit flavoured energy drink.
This workshop was funded by Aim Higher to give the students the opportunity to take part in a taster session in their chosen subject area, and encourage them to go on to take further and higher education qualifications.

Students were also given a tour of the College and its facilities and meet staff and students to familiarise themselves with the college environment.
Workshops are open to school students from across the city in subject areas ranging from Performing Arts to Beauty.

Moat Community College Student Development Officer, Laura Patel said, “The students have really enjoyed the session and the variety of things they are doing in it.  I’ve been surprised with the knowledge they have and how they have been able to express their ideas.

“It’s good for them to come out of the school environment and think about what their aspirations are.”

Mark Clarke, Leicester College Lecturer in Business said, “It’s great for students of this age to get an idea of the subjects they might like to go on to study. These sessions give them the opportunity to experience first-hand what it is like at College.”

Moat Community College student, Zubair Lambat said, “I’ve really enjoyed the session and learning how to work as a team to come up with an idea.”
