Social Care learner secures place in WorldSkills UK finals

Health and Social Care learner from Leicester College, Kayleigh Gee has won a place in the finals of the WorldSkills UK Caring competition.

The 16 year old who is in the first year of a BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care course at Leicester College, beat off stiff competition at the regional heats held at the college on 10 to 11 March 2010.  It is the first time a WorldSkills competition has been held in the Caring category.

The competition tested participant’s ability to demonstrate the delivery of excellent care in front of a panel of judges whilst taking part in activities replicating situations from every day roles as well as in an emergency situation.

Kayleigh will compete for a chance to represent the UK internationally at WorldSkills 2011 in London on 23 June 2010.

Kayleigh said: “I was really shocked to be picked to go through to the finals as I was one of the youngest competitors and I didn’t think I’d get anywhere.  But the competition went well and I’m really happy to be going to London.”

Deborah Bhebhe, Business Delivery Manager for Caring Professions at Leicester College said: “I am thrilled that Kayleigh has won a place in the first national Caring WorldSkills competition.  This reflects the professionalism and high standard of abilities of the Health and Social Care learners at Leicester College and in the industry sector.”
