Construction

Currently Leicester is one of the biggest regeneration areas in the UK, with a £3 billion regeneration project in progress.

Lack of knowledge in skilled trades is still a major issue for employers in the Construction Skills area. As well as on-the-job training and qualifications that can be taken either entirely or partly in the workplace, Leicester College has brand new workshops, which simulate working conditions and allow delegates to build up their skills in a controlled college environment before starting work on site. Leicester College is recognised as a Unibond Centre of Excellence in Construction.

Successful Training

Regent Electrical Services Ltd

Regent Electrical Services Ltd is an electrical installation company based in Syston, Leicester. As part of its ongoing commitment to develop a highly skilled workforce, a number of its employees have trained with Leicester College.

Kieran Mulligan, an Apprentice Electrician at Regent Electrical Services Ltd, said: “I chose Electrical Installation training because I wanted to learn an electrical trade. One of the main benefits was learning the theory side of the electrical trade and this means that I now understand a lot more about my job. Doing the training with Leicester College was good and I would recommend it to others.”

Director of Regent Electrical Services Ltd, Bob Grant said: “By providing training opportunities for employees like Kieran we aim to support them in their pursuit of qualifying as skilled electricians. This has many benefits for our business including increasing our future skilled labour. We’ve used Leicester College for a number of our employees and we will continue to use it for our training needs.

“Our company was a recipient of a Leicester College Award to Industry for Training and we will continue to work with it to provide vital industrial knowledge for our mutual benefit. I would also recommend the College to other employers looking for training.”
