Money Matters

Finance is something that affects everybody, but Leicester College is here to help you with your finances so that you can concentrate on your studies. As well as being able to provide expert advice and guidance, we can help you access a range of different financial support. Money matters can be very personal and complicated and each individual's circumstances are different. So we advise that you talk to the advice and guidance team within Student Services as soon as possible. We can offer advice in the following areas:

• childcare costs
• travel costs
• advice on how to increase your income
• help with managing your finances
• how to access extra financial support if you are experiencing financial hardship.

There are various types of financial support available and your eligibility is dependant on various criteria. The information in this section will give you a brief overview of what is available and if you are eligible.

Budgeting tips

• You could take a part-time job (work experience).
• Do you need it, or just want it?
• Leave credit cards at home, only take cash out.
  You won't spend what you don’t have!
• Use libraries and buy second hand (Try eBay or Amazon online)
• Look for special deals and shop around.
• Bank accounts offer different packages so get advice on which would suit you .
• Watch out for overdraft rates and penalties.
• Broke or in debt? Tell someone (our Welfare Advisers can help you).
• Don’t borrow to pay off debt, it just creates more debt!
