Training Opportunities for the Unemployed

Six Month Unemployed Training Offer and Routes into Work

Have you been unemployed for six – eleven months and are in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance?

Leicester College is offering a range of free short programmes designed to support your return to work via our Unemployed Training (25 years plus) and Routes into Work (18 – 24 year olds) programmes. We offer short programmes in:

  • Business
  • Contact Centres
  • Construction
  • Electrical Safety
  • Food Manufacturing
  • Health and Social Care
  • Hospitality
  • Retail
  • Facilities Management
  • Sustainability
  • Welding

Work Focused Training

Work Focused Training provides support to 18 to 24 year olds who are unemployed and have been in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance for between six months and a year.

A Twelve week, full-time training programmes delivered by Leicester College and Next Step are available to support you to gain employment. All programmes lead to qualifications which enhance your chances of gaining employment. The programme is designed to meet your needs, and includes:

  • health and safety
  • first aid
  • food safety
  • team working skills
  • confidence building
  • communication skills
  • numeracy
  • career exploration
  • interview preparation.

Personal Best (course code A7901)

If you are unemployed, you could be eligible to join the Personal Best programme which gives learners a chance to become a London 2012 Games volunteer. The six-week programme is your chance to learn new skills, gain a level 1 qualification and receive support looking for jobs.

You will also have the opportunity to volunteer at local sporting, cultural and community events. Upon completion of the course you will have the chance to become a London 2012 Games Volunteer. Taking the course could open doors to a career as a leisure centre assistant, community development officer, sports coach, volunteer manager or a youth and community worker.

To be eligible you must:

  • be aged 19 years or over on the day the training starts
  • be able to take up full-time employment
  • not currently in training
  • not have a full level 2 qualification or above.

You will learn about:

  • becoming a volunteer
  • volunteering and the Olympic and Paralympics Games
  • equality and diversity
  • health and safety
  • developing team skills
  • IT and basic literacy.
