Skills for Life

One in three workers (14.6 million people) admit to struggling with reading and writing (Learndirect survey 2007) and £4.8 billion per year is lost as a total for all businesses in the UK as a result of poor essential skills (Cost to Industry - Basic Skills Agency).
If your business is affected by general administration errors, poor time-keeping or insufficient production or provision of services, we have the solution.

We can equip your staff with high-quality Essential Skills or English for Speakers of Other Languages by designing a training package incorporating your processes and paperwork or incorporated into your other training. Rather than lose skilled workers through poor knowledge of English, maths or poor communication, our discreet and embedded training teaches job-related language, allowing employees to better utilise their skills.

We have extensive experience of working with employers, individual employees and union representatives, to help address numeracy and literacy issues in a sensitive but effective manner.

Claire College EmployeeSuccessful Training

University of Cambridge Clare College

Joanne Kozlowska is a cleaner at Clare College. Jo was part of a group of Clare College employees who completed English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) training with Leicester College, Joanne said:

“I learnt new words and my grammar and speech are much better than before I started the training. It has helped me with my job and I now have much better contact with my colleagues. I have recommended the training to new colleagues who work with me.”

Clare College has experienced many benefits of the investment in this training. Its HR officer, Sally Hewings, said:

“The main aim of engaging our employees in the training was to help them integrate into the department they work in and also into the College as a whole. The benefits to the College have been immense and are ongoing.

“The employees can now hold a conversation with other members of staff as well as read notices, which is particularly important for those relating to health and safety.

“We are pleased with the decision to use Leicester College for this training. The trainers were very good and built a rapport with the employees. This was very important in helping them to learn.”
