Student Union

The Student Union is run by students, for students, and allows you to get your voice heard by the upper tiers of management. We are a group of students who are voted into position to form the Executive Committee.

There are 24 posts which include the President, Women's Officer, Welfare Officer, International Students Officer and Campaigns Officer, and all have specific roles and responsibilities.

It's not all meetings though! The Student Union also gets involved in campaigns from World AIDS Day and Water Aid to domestic violence and charity events for the College Charity of the Year. The Union is also actively involved in putting on trips and sports activities for fellow students.

In short, our Student Union is a vibrant and energetic place to be, and mirrors the College values of diversity, inclusion and equality. So if you want to do something more with your time, then please get involved.

Interview with the Student
Union Disability Officer

Jessica Peach

Student Union Disability Officer 2009/10

Jessica Peach felt ready for the challenge of being Student Union Disability Officer after gaining experience helping Leicester College Continuing Studies learners and through being an advice course representative, all whilst studying for a BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care.

As the Disability Officer, Jessica provides support for learners with mental, physical and learning disabilities. She has particularly enjoyed facilitating a workshop during sports disability week at the College and meeting Princess Anne during the official opening of the new Abbey Park Campus. She also feels she has gained valuable experience in engaging communication between staff and learners, which will hold her in good stead for a future career in the care sector.

NUS Discounts

Great offers for students! All students enrolled on a Leicester College course will receive a learner handbook. This contains all the information relating to College services and a wide variety of discount vouchers for College services such as hairdressing, floristry and campus refectories.

Students will also receive an NUS card which entitles them to a huge array of discounts at local clubs, bars, leisure facilities, and market leading shops. A list organisations who accept the NUS card can be found on the next page.
