Support for International LearnersFeedback
At Leicester College we strive to support our international learners who come to study on the various courses we offer. They come from numerous backgrounds, nationalities, ages and gender. Through our international office we have dedicated staff to support you by providing:
- expert advice and guidance regarding courses and immigration status
- assessment of overseas qualifications
- help with applying for student visas or extending them
- support with finding suitable accommodation.
Once you enrol as a learner at Leicester College, you will also be entitled to use services and provision offered by Student Services, these include:
Learner Engagement and Enrichment Team (LEET)
The Learner Engagement and Enrichment Team (LEET) offers enrichment activities so you can enjoy your overall college experience. During the year, the SLT organises a selection of excursions, activities and sporting events, as well as guidance on personal health and wellbeing.
Student Union
The Student Union is run by learners for learners.
An elected body of learners take part in various aspects of learner governance and is there to represent the views and needs of the learning population at Leicester College. Nominations are sought annually for an International Learners Officer to represent the views and needs of our overseas learners.
Faith
Leicester is a richly diverse, multi-cultural and multi-faith community. This in turn is reflected in the vibrantly mixed learner population at Leicester College. To support this, a multi-faith chaplaincy team provides the following:
- one to one pastoral care and support
- representation from all faiths and backgrounds
- enrichment activities to raise awareness of, and encourage, an understanding of different faiths and beliefs
- provision and accommodation to observe and practice faith
- links with local faith communities.
International learners’ enrichment activities
To support academic and tutorial provision, a series of enrichment activities are available for our international learners.
In addition to your personal tutor, a dedicated officer will provide sessions to welcome you to Leicester College, provide additional information and support to help you integrate into the College and, more importantly, into the City of Leicester itself.
Living away from home can be a daunting prospect for anyone, especially if it’s in another country. With this in mind, a series of activities and events are offered, designed to enable you to adjust to living and studying in a different country.
These events will allow you to make new friends and enrich your understanding of different cultures and traditions.
Careers Guidance
A dedicated team of experienced careers advisors are available to help you plan your academic and professional progression. For international learners the team will provide guidance on UK equivalence to overseas qualifications and help with understanding of how the UK qualification system is structured and functions.
Counselling
There are times when our learners require some extra support or are troubled about something. The counselling team offer a safe and confidential service for all of our learners. Our counsellors will listen and try to understand the problems or issues you may have. The team will give you the opportunity to express yourself and help work out what the next course of action needs to be.
