Getting the right careers advice is very important and can make a positive impact on your choices. Our Careers Advisors provide free and impartial information, advice and guidance to help plan the next move. You can seek careers guidance before starting, during or finishing your course to help you make the right decisions at the right time.
Careers Advisors provide impartial, confidential advice and help with:
- Producing an action plan to help you consider your options
- Accessing careers information
- Completing application forms for courses or work
- Preparing for an interview and practising interview skills
- Providing e-guidance via info@leicestercollege.ac.uk
- Researching employment and looking for work
- Selecting and applying for courses
Part-time Work
Many learners have part-time work whilst at Leicester College; others have placements as part of their course. Leicester College Careers Advisers can help you with all areas of job search, including help with CVs, Application Forms and Interview Techniques.
As well as this comprehensive service there are Part-Time Notice Boards situated near Student Services at both Freemen’s Park Campus and Abbey Park Campus, and at St Margaret’s Campus near the Information Centre. These are kept to date on a regular basis.
Learner Guides to Employment
The Careers Team in conjunction with Marketing have produced a series of jobsearch guides. These guides are for students and staff and contain some valuable information that can help individuals find work. The Guides hold lots of useful hints, tips, and examples to follow. There are for four in the series:
These are available electronically free from the College website (in the Student Services Section) and from Moodle as well as in hard copy format from leaflet dispensers next to the Jobs Notice Boards at all three campuses and Student Services.
Careers Education Programme
Those attending courses at Leicester College can get help in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to begin a career. Sessions can be arranged to cover:
- Exploring future career pathways
- Job search activities including, updating CVs
- Completing job applications and letters
- Preparing for interviews
When applying to Higher Education you can get help with:
- Finding out which resources to use and methods of application.
- Completing Higher Education Application forms online.
You also have the chance to visit universities for open and taster days. Local universities visit the college regularly to give talks and information and each year we organise a visit to the Regional Higher Education Fair.
Careers Libraries and Resources
Each of our campuses has a well stocked Careers Library within the main Library. It contains standard reference books and resources directly related to the courses studied at each campus. Careerscape (a career information database) is also available on all student computer desktops.

Outreach Careers Information and Advice
The Outreach Adviser offers careers information and advice to anyone 19 years old or over and who:
- attends a course at any of the outreach centres, community centres or schools that Leicester College works with
- attends an evening or Saturday course
- works during office hours and cannot attend appointments between 9am and 5pm.
